FAQ
Q: What size companies are your members?
A: Our members are small (1 – 9 staff), medium (9 – 50 staff), and large (50+ staff). WAVE is a great fit for all sizes of members! Quality and expertise and a commitment to engaging with the network are the judging criteria for accepting new members.
Q: How many members do you permit per country?
A: WAVE operates on a principle of proportional exclusivity. This means we carefully consider the following criteria to determine how many members should be integrated from any given country.
· Overall demand for logistics services within the country
· Economic factors (GDP, etc.)
· Demographic factors (population, education, urban/rural etc.)
· Competencies of members (whether the current members can adequately serve the rest of the network’s needs)
· Trading partnerships (regional alliances, free trade agreements in place, etc.)
Q: Why does WAVE use proportional exclusivity?
A: WAVE believes that limiting the number of members per country to a “hard cap” needlessly limits the business opportunities available to the rest of the network. More members = more business! However: the ratio between countries must be balanced. Having 1 member from a high manufacturing/production/exporting country and 10 members from a high consumerist/importing country is not sensible. Our goal is to provide plenty of opportunities for members to operate as the designated representative of their own country, while ensuring that other members worldwide have choices and opportunities for growth.
Q: Does WAVE have accountability criteria for members?
A: YES! WAVE provides all members with a
member-created Accountability Charter which lists expectations regarding
response time, quotation transparency, payment remittance, and other topics.
Q: Does WAVE conduct an annual conference?
A: YES! Our annual conference is an incredible opportunity for networking and fostering new business together. It is educational and offers the chance for professional development as well as cultural and leisure activities.
Q: Where are your Conferences held?
A: Our Conferences are held in varying locations around the world, guided by the preferences and perspectives of our members, as well as carefully considered criteria such as distance and cost. Locations are selected and announced in plenty of time to encourage maximum attendance.
Q: Does WAVE have a Conference attendance policy?
A: YES! WAVE believes member engagement is crucial to the health and profile of the network. Therefore, missing 2 consecutive conferences is not permitted, and no more than 2 conferences may be missed in a given 5-year period. Exceptions are made, of course, if communicated to the SLA and approved by the leadership of the network.
Q: Are members allowed to be in other networks?
A: Members are permitted to belong to other networks, yes. But member engagement within the network is crucial for continued membership in WAVE.
Q: What is the Strategic Leadership Assembly (SLA)?
A: The SLA is a rotating group of members
representing various specializations and from various countries to share their
perspective on the direction of the network and provide recommendations to the
Board of Directors about a variety of topics. The SLA develops initiatives for
the overall benefit of the members.
